LUCKNOW, September 6 : The stage is set for a blockbuster Grand Finale as the UP T20 League 2026, powered by Vimal Elaichi and NSC, reaches its climax. On the eve of the highly anticipated title clash between the Lucknow Falcons and the Meerut Mavericks, the league hosted a pre-final press conference at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

The event featured Dr. Sanjay Kapoor (Chairman, UP T20 League Governing Council) and Sanjeev Kumar Singh (Member, UP T20 League Governing Council). They were joined by the two star captains, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Lucknow Falcons) and Rinku Singh (Meerut Mavericks), alongside Umang Sharma (Batting Coach, Lucknow Falcons) and Utkarsh Chandra (Head Coach, Meerut Mavericks).

Addressing the media, Chairman Dr. Sanjay Kapoor reflected on the incredible success of Season 4, highlighting the realization of BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla’s vision.

“This journey started in Lucknow, moved to Kanpur, and has now returned to Lucknow for the ultimate clash,” Dr. Kapoor stated. “We could not have asked for a better final. You have two incredible captains and stalwarts of the game facing off. The young players learn so much just by sharing the dressing room and playing alongside them. This league provides the perfect platform for the youth of Uttar Pradesh to outshine on a grand stage.”

Dr. Kapoor also expressed immense gratitude to the ground staff for their heroic efforts against unprecedented weather. “In the last 30 to 40 years, we haven’t seen this kind of rainfall. Despite that, we had zero washouts in Ekana and only two abandoned games in Kanpur across 33 matches so far. The groundsmen have worked tirelessly. I also want to thank our mentor, Rajeev Shukla ji, as his dream for this league has truly materialized. Our digital and social media numbers are five times higher than last season.”

Looking ahead to the league’s future, Dr. Kapoor confirmed the possibility of expanding to new venues like Varanasi for Season 5. “It is very possible. As the league reaches Tier-B and Tier-C towns, it will only grow bigger. We even conducted trials this year to ensure maximum outreach.”

Dr. Kapoor officially confirmed that an extra Reserve Day has been allocated for the Grand Finale as a precaution against the persistent rain.

The final presents a fascinating contrast: Rinku Singh’s Meerut Mavericks are entering their fourth consecutive final, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s Lucknow Falcons are making their maiden appearance in the title match.

“Since winning Qualifier 1, everyone in the camp is very happy,” the Lucknow skipper shared. “There are some nerves because it is the franchise’s first final, but there is mostly excitement. I have experience playing in finals, but we have young players who haven’t played at this massive level yet. My message to them is to simply enjoy the opportunity because these moments don’t come around often. Under pressure, they shouldn’t forget why they started playing this game.”

When asked about the perceived “home advantage” in Lucknow, the veteran pacer elegantly replied, “Uttar Pradesh is everyone’s home.” He also praised the UPCA Speed Hunt initiative, noting that several talents, including one (Krishn Kumar Saroj) in his own team, have emerged from it.

On being a fast-bowling captain, he added: “How a captain performs ultimately depends on the team. The way the team executes the plans is what makes a captain’s decision right or wrong.”

Providing an update on his hand injury, Rinku assured fans he is feeling better and is fully committed. “The boys are doing exceptionally well. To play consistently good cricket for four seasons and reach every final is a huge achievement. There is immense motivation and passion in the camp.”

Facing a bowling attack led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a daunting task, and Rinku acknowledged the challenge. “He is a master of swing. We are actively planning on how we can tackle him effectively in the powerplay.”

Both captains exchanged mutual respect regarding their star performers. Bhuvneshwar praised Meerut’s leading spinner, Zeeshan Ansari: “The way he bowls every season, he truly deserves the Purple Cap. We will have to tackle him very carefully.” Rinku, in turn, backed Ansari to deliver in the final and threw his support behind opener Swastik Chikara. “Swastik’s last few games haven’t been great, but he is a big-match player, and I am confident he will do well in the final.”

The Grand Finale of the UP T20 League 2026 takes place on Sunday, September 6 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, promising an unforgettable conclusion to a spectacular season.
