Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have appointed Bharat Arun as their bowling coach for the upcoming IPL seasons. Arun, 62, brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously shaped India’s pace revolution as the national team’s bowling coach. He joins LSG after a four-year tenure with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which included their 2024 IPL title win.
While neither KKR, LSG, nor Arun have made formal comments, Cricbuzz confirms that he has signed a two-year contract with the Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise. Arun’s role is expected to be a year-round commitment, focusing on player development beyond just the IPL window.
His arrival signals a likely exit for Zaheer Khan, who served as mentor last season under captain Rishabh Pant. Zaheer had a one-year deal, and a renewal now appears unlikely. Head coach Justin Langer’s future is also under review after two seasons with the team.
The move also coincides with Chandrakant Pandit’s departure as KKR’s head coach, leaving multiple vacancies in their coaching setup. However, KKR are expected to conduct a structured hiring process to rebuild their backroom staff.
KKR and Arun are understood to have parted ways amicably. With Dwayne Bravo already handling bowling strategies as team mentor, the franchise felt reducing overlapping responsibilities was necessary. KKR, known for fostering coaching talent like Gautam Gambhir, Trevor Bayliss, and Brendon McCullum, maintained their policy of not hindering professional growth, which helped facilitate Arun’s release.
