It may seem unusual for a swimmer better known for the 800m and 1500m freestyle to compete in the 200m freestyle, but Vedaant has never limited himself to long-distance events. Since his junior days, he has competed across a range of freestyle distances, showcasing his ability to combine speed with endurance.

In 2021, he won medals in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle events, underlining his versatility as a swimmer. His performances have shown that he is capable of adapting to different demands rather than relying solely on his strength in the longer races.

Vedaant had earlier spoken about his ability to balance both long- and short-distance events, while keeping his options open before deciding where he wanted to focus. The 200m freestyle, in particular, sits between the two extremes. It requires considerably more speed than the 800m or 1500m, but also demands the ability to sustain that pace over four lengths of the pool.

That combination makes the event a natural fit for a swimmer with Vedaant’s endurance. His performance at the 2026 Senior Nationals offered further evidence of his growing potential in the 200m freestyle. He clocked 1:53.89 to finish fourth in a highly competitive field, missing out on third place by only a fraction.

The result suggests that Vedaant is not merely testing himself in the 200m freestyle but is steadily developing into a serious contender in the event as well.
