Australian pacer Scott Boland etched his name into the history books by becoming the 12th Australian and 49th overall to claim a Test hat-trick, during the third Test against the West Indies at Sabina Park, Kingston.

Boland’s stunning feat came in the second innings of the pink-ball Test, as West Indies collapsed for just 27 runs—the second-lowest total in Test history—handing Australia a 176-run victory and a 3-0 series sweep.

Bowling his second over, with West Indies reeling at 26/6 while chasing 204, Boland dismantled the lower order:

• He removed Justin Greaves (11), the top scorer, with a ball that held its line and took the edge to second slip.
• Next ball, Shamar Joseph was trapped lbw by a sharp nip-backer.
• For the hat-trick, he bowled Jomel Warrican with a deceptive slower delivery that cut back in through the gate.

Boland’s hat-trick is the second in 2025, following Pakistan’s Noman Ali, who also achieved the feat against West Indies earlier in January.

Interestingly, Australia also boasts the first-ever Test hat-trick, recorded by Fred Spofforth against England in 1879.
