India have been dealt a double injury blow ahead of the fourth T20I against England at the County Ground in Bristol, with fast bowler Harshit Rana and spinner Varun Chakaravarthy ruled out due to hamstring injuries.

At the toss, India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first, confirming that both players were unavailable and had been replaced in the playing XI by Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sundar.

“We’ve got two changes, two injuries actually. Varun and Harshit go out, so Washington and Prasidh come in,” Shreyas said.

Prasidh and Washington last represented India in the opening T20I against Ireland in Belfast on June 26.

Shortly after the toss, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued an official statement confirming that both Harshit and Varun had sustained hamstring injuries during the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Following an assessment by the BCCI Medical Team, the duo has been ruled out of not only the fourth T20I in Bristol but also the fifth and final match of the series at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on July 11.

“Update: Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy sustained hamstring injuries in the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. The BCCI Medical Team has assessed them and ruled them out of the 4th and 5th T20Is,” the BCCI posted on X.

England have also made one change to their playing XI, with leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed replacing Liam Dawson.

“Rehan Ahmed comes in for Liam Dawson,” England captain Harry Brook confirmed at the toss.
