Two men have been arrested for allegedly operating an online betting racket during Indian Premier League matches, with digital transactions exceeding ₹8 crore found on their mobile phones, police said on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Sipri Bazar police station raided a house in Mahendrapuri Colony and apprehended Anshuman (40) and Abhishek Pathak (31), according to SP City Preeti Singh.
Police revealed that the accused were running the betting operation from the premises, accepting wagers on various aspects of IPL matches, including runs, wickets, and overs.
During the raid, officers recovered four mobile phones that showed transactions involving digital coins worth over ₹8.05 crore. In addition, more than ₹5,000 in cash was seized from the spot.
Authorities also froze approximately ₹1.80 lakh across nine bank accounts linked to the accused.
During interrogation, the duo allegedly disclosed that they were working under Ravi Kushwaha, a resident of Pathoriya, who is believed to be the main accused and is currently absconding.
A case has been registered under relevant legal provisions, and efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the prime suspect, police added.
