The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 returns to Pallekele on Tuesday (February 24) with a high-stakes Super 8 clash between England national cricket team and Pakistan national cricket team.

With only two teams from each Super 8 group progressing to the semi-finals, this Group 2 encounter — also featuring Sri Lanka and New Zealand — carries significant weight. Two-time champions England will be looking to strengthen their qualification hopes, while Pakistan aim to keep their campaign on track.

England Riding Bowling Momentum

Led by Harry Brook, England head into the contest after defeating Sri Lanka in a low-scoring thriller at the same venue. Despite posting a modest 146/9 on a dry and tricky surface — powered largely by Phil Salt’s fluent 62 off 40 balls — England’s batting struggled for rhythm.

However, their bowlers turned the game around spectacularly. Will Jacks (3/22) and Jofra Archer (2/20) dismantled Sri Lanka in the powerplay, triggering a collapse that saw the hosts bowled out for just 95. England’s clinical bowling display ensured they secured two crucial points.

Pakistan Seeking Momentum

Pakistan, captained by Salman Ali Agha, had a frustrating start to the Super 8 phase as rain washed out their fixture against New Zealand in Colombo. Forced to share points, Pakistan now face added pressure — a defeat here could leave them needing a comprehensive win over Sri Lanka later in the tournament to stay alive.

Pallekele Weather Forecast

The weather forecast looks encouraging for fans and players alike. Clear skies are expected, with no rain interruptions predicted. Temperatures are likely to range between 22°C and 26°C, humidity levels could exceed 80 percent, and winds are expected to blow at around 10 km/h — conditions that may once again test both batting units.

With semi-final spots on the line, an intense and tactical battle awaits in Pallekele.
