Australia vice-captain Ashleigh Gardner has found herself at the centre of a controversy after reports claimed she has separated from her wife, Monica Wright, just months after the couple married in April 2025.
Gardner and Wright, who reportedly met through a dating app before getting engaged in 2024, are said to have ended their marriage under acrimonious circumstances. The situation escalated after Wright publicly accused Gardner of infidelity by sharing a photo of fellow Australia cricketer Georgia Voll on her Instagram Stories with the caption: “This is who my wife cheated on me with.”

Trouble in Paradise
According to a report by the Daily Mail, cracks in the relationship first became apparent during Australia’s campaign at the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup in India. Wright had travelled to India to visit Gardner, but an insider claimed something seemed unusual.
“It was a little bit weird. It was like something was a little bit off with Ash, but we thought it was because of the pressure of the World Cup,” the source was quoted as saying.
The report added that after returning to Australia, Gardner asked Wright to sit down for a conversation and explained the reason behind her behaviour. The revelation reportedly left Wright “shattered” and “distraught.”
Family Plans Put on Hold
The report further claimed the couple had been planning to start a family before their relationship broke down.
“They were about to go to the fertility clinic. They had a booking that Monica had to cancel,” an insider told the publication.
Gardner has reportedly since moved out of the home they shared.
“Ash left one day. Monica came home and everything of Ash’s was gone, except for the rings. She left the wedding rings in the cupboard. Just the box of wedding rings, and that was it,” the source added.
The report also claimed that Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel was informed of the personal developments before Gardner was appointed captain of the Sydney Sixers for the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season.
Neither Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Voll, nor Cricket Australia has publicly commented on the allegations. Wright’s claims remain unverified, and Gardner has not responded publicly to the accusation of infidelity.
