Apart from strengthening its age-verification system, the BCCI is also set to tighten the rules for players seeking to change the state they represent in domestic cricket. Players wishing to switch associations by updating the address on their Aadhaar card must complete the process before the end of August to become eligible after serving the mandatory one-year cooling-off period.

Explaining the rule, a BCCI source said, “If a player wants to represent a different state in the 2026-27 season, the address on his or her Aadhaar card must have been changed before September 1, 2025.”

Manjot Kalra Age Fraud Case

Indian cricket has witnessed several instances of players manipulating documents to compete in age-group tournaments. One of the most high-profile cases involved former India Under-19 World Cup-winning batter Manjot Kalra.

Kalra, who played a starring role in India’s victorious 2018 Under-19 World Cup campaign, was found guilty of age fraud and was handed a one-year suspension by the BCCI in 2020. Since serving the ban, the Punjab-born cricketer has largely remained out of the domestic cricketing circuit.
