When it comes to cricket, few rivalries match the electricity of an India vs Pakistan clash. Every meeting between these two giants carries more than just sporting stakes — it’s pride, history, and raw emotion rolled into one. Over the decades, they’ve given fans some of the most nerve-jangling ODIs in the game’s history. Here are three classics that still get hearts racing.

1. 1987 Hyderabad Thriller – The Forgotten Classic
This one had it all — high stakes, fierce competition, and a jaw-dropping finish. Pakistan led the six-match series 2-0, and India desperately needed a win to stay alive. After a shaky start, gritty knocks from Kapil Dev and Ravi Shastri helped India post a fighting total. Pakistan’s Salim Malik led the chase with a sparkling innings, but the real drama came in the final over. With two needed off the last ball, Abdul Qadir was run out — and, under the quirky series rules, a tied game meant victory for India! A bizarre, rarely-seen finish in ODI cricket history.

2. 2004 Karachi Epic – The High-Scoring Thriller
This wasn’t just cricket — it was history, politics, and adrenaline packed into one game. In a charged Karachi atmosphere, India piled up a mammoth 349, with Rahul Dravid falling just short of a century and Virender Sehwag smashing a blistering 79. Pakistan’s chase started poorly at 34/2, but Inzamam-ul-Haq and Yousuf Youhana turned the game on its head with a majestic 150-run stand. The match went down to the last over, with Ashish Nehra defending nine runs. The twist? Moin Khan fell short in the dying moments, handing India a nerve-wracking 5-run win.

3. 2014 Mirpur Asia Cup – The Afridi Storm
If there’s one man who could snatch victory from nowhere against India, it’s Shahid Afridi. Chasing India’s modest 245, Pakistan’s innings was steady but fragile, with wickets falling regularly. At 113/4, Mohammad Hafeez and Sohaib Maqsood steadied the ship, but late drama saw Pakistan needing 11 off 10 balls — and losing three wickets in five deliveries. Then came the chaos. With four balls left and nine still needed, Afridi unleashed two colossal sixes — one over covers, the other over long-on. In seconds, the match was over. Pakistan had won by one wicket, and Afridi had once again broken Indian hearts.
