Indian cricket could soon see another leadership change in the T20 format. According to recent reports, the selectors are planning to move on from Suryakumar Yadav as T20 captain, with Shreyas Iyer expected to take over the role for the upcoming series against Ireland and England.

Suryakumar was given the responsibility after India started preparing a younger squad following the T20 World Cup phase. As captain, he brought energy, aggression, and a fearless style of cricket. Many players also looked comfortable under his leadership because of the positive atmosphere he created in the dressing room. However, selectors now appear ready to try a different direction.

One of the biggest reasons behind this possible change is consistency and long-term planning. While Surya remains one of the most dangerous T20 batters in the world, injuries and fitness concerns have affected his continuity in recent months. The management may be looking for someone who can lead regularly and build a stable core before the next major ICC tournaments.

Shreyas Iyer has emerged as the strongest option. Over the past year, he has impressed not only with the bat but also with his calm approach as a leader. His captaincy in domestic cricket and the IPL has earned praise from both former players and fans. He is seen as someone who understands pressure situations well and can handle a young squad confidently.

Another important factor is balance. Iyer is considered tactically strong and communicates clearly with players on the field. Team management may believe his style fits the kind of cricket India wants to play over the next few years. That said, this does not reduce Suryakumar’s importance to the team. He is still expected to remain a key player in India’s T20 setup. His experience and match-winning ability make him too valuable to ignore. In fact, removing captaincy could even help him focus more on his batting and play with greater freedom.

As of now, no official announcement has been made by the BCCI, but reports suggest the decision could be confirmed soon when the squads for the Ireland and England series are announced.

If the change happens, it will mark another fresh chapter for India’s T20 team as they continue building toward the future.
