Star middle-order batter Rinku Singh has returned home from India’s T20 World Cup camp due to a family emergency, casting doubt over his availability for the team’s crucial Super 8 fixture.
Rinku, who has featured in all five matches for India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, did not attend the training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday (February 24).
According to a PTI report, a BCCI source confirmed:
“Rinku Singh has flown back home from Chennai due to a family emergency. He did not join India’s practice session at Chepauk.”
As per the same report, Rinku’s father, Khanchand Singh, has reportedly been admitted to a hospital in Greater Noida in serious condition, prompting the left-hander to rush back home.
His sudden departure has raised concerns about his availability for India’s must-win Super 8 clash against Zimbabwe national cricket team on Thursday in Chennai.
Led by Suryakumar Yadav, India face a high-pressure scenario. If West Indies cricket team defeat South Africa national cricket team and India then lose to Zimbabwe, the defending champions’ campaign will come to an abrupt end.
With qualification hanging in the balance, India will be hoping for clarity on Rinku’s situation ahead of the decisive encounter.
