“Quite Embarrassing”: Roston Chase Reacts After West Indies Bowled Out for 27

West Indies captain Roston Chase admitted it was “quite embarrassing” to be bowled out for 27, the second-lowest total in Test history, during the third Test against Australia at Sabina Park. Chasing 204, the hosts crumbled in just 14.3 overs, the third-shortest all-out innings in Test cricket.

“It’s heartbreaking to be in a position where we believe we can win and then produce such a poor batting display,” Chase said post-match. “It’s been a recurring issue throughout the series — that’s what makes it even more disappointing.”

Mitchell Starc ran through the top order with a five-wicket haul in just 15 balls – the fastest in Test history – while Scott Boland claimed his first Test hat-trick, as Australia completed a 3-0 series sweep.

Chase felt the target of 204 was realistic, given the conditions.

“The wicket was actually good for batting, better than the previous two games where the ball misbehaved. We believed 204 was gettable, but with the kind of start we had, it was always going to be tough.”

He also expressed concern over the challenging pitches during the series, noting that no batter from either side managed a century — a rarity in Test cricket.

“This is the first series I’ve played where not a single hundred was scored. It shows how bowler-dominated the conditions were.”

With their next assignment a tough tour of India later this year, Chase emphasized the need for introspection and preparation.

“We need to take a hard look at our batting. We’ve got time before the India tour, so organising camps to work on spin would be ideal. Our focus has to be on scoring 300+ totals — that’s what gives you a chance to win Tests.”
