Indore, Madhya Pradesh, June 3: In a historic and inspiring moment, the largest Tricolour flag was unfurled during the opening ceremony of the Aditya Birla Group Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) T20 Scindia Cup at the iconic Holkar Stadium in Indore.

The massive national flag, measuring 35 metres x 20 metres, was created using waste from nearly 11,000 plastic bottles and is 100% GRS-certified, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The remarkable creation had earlier earned a place in the Limca Book of Records.

The initiative holds special significance in Indore, a city that has earned national recognition for its cleanliness drives and commitment to environmental conservation. Widely regarded as one of India’s cleanest cities, Indore has become a model for effective waste management, recycling and sustainable urban practices.

The idea behind this initiative was to promote environmental awareness and encourage responsible waste management by taking inspiration from Indore’s remarkable cleanliness journey. It showcased how waste can be recycled into something meaningful, while also celebrating the city’s commitment to cleanliness and sustainability.
The Tricolour was proudly carried onto the field by 150 Indore students, creating a breathtaking spectacle that drew applause from everyone present at the stadium.

Adding to the grandeur of the occasion, a giant MPL flag which was created from waste from 7000 plastic bottles, measuring 20 metres x 15 metres was also hoisted, symbolising the growth and rising stature of the league.
The memorable ceremony perfectly blended patriotism, sustainability and the spirit of cricket, setting the stage for another exciting season of the Madhya Pradesh League.

The Madhya Pradesh League which is one of the fastest growing state leagues in India has become bigger this season with the addition of new franchises in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

The men’s tournament now features 10 teams, with Malwa Stallions, Ujjain Falcons and Royal Nimar Eagles being the new entrants, joining defending champions Bhopal Leopards, along with Bundelkhand Bulls, Chambal Ghariyals, Gwalior Cheetahs, Indore Pink Panthers, Jabalpur Royal Lions and Rewa Jaguars.

The women’s competition has also expanded, with Gwalior Shernis and Royal Nimar Eagles making their debut. They will compete alongside Bhopal Wolves, Bundelkhand Bulls and Chambal Ghariyals in the five-team tournament.

The tournament that will be played across two venues, Holkar Stadium and Daly College, will see the experienced Gwalior Cheetahs take on new entrants Ujjain Falcons in the opening fixture. Both teams will be eager to start their campaign on a winning note.

The women’s competition will begin on June 4 where Chambal Ghariyals will play Gwalior Shernis at Daly College in the morning match.
