The much-awaited Andhra Premier League (APL) Season 4 got off to a dazzling start on Friday with a star-studded opening ceremony at the Dr YS ACA VDCA International Cricket Stadium. This year’s curtain-raiser was bigger and brighter, featuring high-profile guests, live performances, and a packed house of cricket enthusiasts.
Adding glamour to the occasion, acclaimed actor and cricket aficionado Daggubati Venkatesh, the official brand ambassador of APL Season 4, set the stage buzzing with his presence. The event was also attended by Union Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, ACA president and MP Kesineni Sivanadh (Chinni), and ACA secretary Sana Satish.
The entertainment quotient soared as actress Pragya Jaiswal and music director Sricharan Pakala delivered electrifying live performances that enthralled the audience.
“A Platform for Rural Talent”
In his address, Union Minister Rammohan Naidu said he hoped the APL would act as a springboard for aspiring cricketers, especially from rural parts of Andhra Pradesh. Highlighting success stories like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who progressed from APL to IPL and then to India’s U-19 team, Naidu urged young players to seize their moment. He also extended his best wishes to all seven participating teams.
ACA president Kesineni Sivanadh announced that this season will be more expansive, with more teams and matches, thereby providing greater opportunities for players to showcase their skills. He cited the rise of Nitish Kumar Reddy and K. Srikar Bharat, both from Visakhapatnam, as proof of the pathway APL offers to international cricket. Sivanadh also noted Visakhapatnam’s growing importance as a cricketing hub, having hosted two IPL matches earlier this year.
A Festive Start
True to his role as brand ambassador, Venkatesh Daggubati mingled with the players and spoke passionately about his love for the game, adding a personal touch to the grand evening.
The festivities gave way to action as the tournament opened with a high-energy clash between Amaravati Royals and Kakinada Kings. A large crowd, including students and youth from across the city, turned up to cheer their teams.
With cricket fever already sweeping the region, organisers are expecting even bigger crowds over the weekend as APL Season 4 promises a month of entertainment, opportunity, and rising cricketing stars.
