Lucknow Super Giants suffered a disappointing 40-run defeat to Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, as their batting unit, led by skipper Rishabh Pant, failed to capitalise on a strong bowling effort.

Chasing a modest target of 160, LSG were bundled out for 119 in 18 overs. The collapse was triggered by Pant’s ill-judged sweep-cum-hoick, which halted any momentum the side had built after a disciplined bowling display earlier in the evening.

Shami, Mohsin, Prince Shine with the Ball

LSG’s bowlers had laid the perfect platform. Mohammed Shami, Mohsin Khan, and Prince Yadav shared six wickets between them to restrict RR to 159/6.

Shami (2/30) showcased his class with the new ball, removing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel off successive deliveries. Mohsin (2/17) impressed with his discipline and bounce, accounting for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Shimron Hetmyer.

Prince Yadav (2/29) once again underlined his consistency, while the trio collectively bowled a remarkable 39 dot balls, choking RR’s scoring rate.

Jadeja Anchors Royals’ Recovery

Ravindra Jadeja emerged as the difference-maker for RR, scoring an unbeaten 43 off 29 balls and also picking up a wicket. His crucial stand with Shubham Dubey helped the Royals recover from another top-order collapse and post a competitive total.

Despite their batting struggles this season, RR’s bowlers ensured the total was more than enough.

LSG Batting Crumbles Under Pressure

LSG’s chase never gained momentum. Early setbacks, including a run-out of Ayush Badoni and the dismissal of Pant, derailed the innings.

Mitchell Marsh fought a lone battle with a 55 off 41 balls, but lacked support as wickets fell regularly at the other end. Big names like Nicholas Pooran and Himmat Singh failed to deliver, with the latter’s selection as Impact Sub likely to face scrutiny.

RR’s pace attack, led by Jofra Archer (3/20) and Nandre Burger (2/27), proved too hot to handle.

What It Means

The victory lifted Rajasthan Royals to second place on the points table with 10 points from seven games, while LSG slumped to ninth after their fourth consecutive defeat.

Conclusion

It was a game where LSG’s bowlers did nearly everything right, but their batting unit let them down badly. On the other hand, RR once again leaned on their bowling strength and Jadeja’s experience to secure a crucial win.
