Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma may have retired from Tests and T20Is, but they’ll likely feature in India’s three-match ODI series in Australia starting October 19 in Perth. Speculation of a 50-over retirement post-tour is rife, but BCCI sources say no decision has been made — and talk of a Sydney farewell on October 25 is premature.
Instead, the board may have the duo play two India A matches against Australia A in Kanpur (Sep 30, Oct 3, Oct 5) to prepare. Both last played an ODI in the Champions Trophy final on March 9, 2025, with Rohit scoring a match-winning 76 and Kohli starring with key knocks earlier in the tournament.
With the Vijay Hazare Trophy starting December 24, and ODIs against South Africa (Nov 30) and New Zealand (Jan 11–18) in between, their domestic appearances could be limited to two or three matches — if they play at all.
