Delhi Capitals kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a stunning three-wicket win over Punjab Kings in a high-scoring thriller at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Monday.
Chasing a daunting target of 211, Delhi Capitals completed the highest successful run chase in Dharamsala IPL history, reaching 211/7 in just 19 overs. The victory was powered by explosive half-centuries from David Miller and captain Axar Patel, whose aggressive counter-attack turned the game around after DC were reduced to 74/4.
Miller smashed 51 off 28 balls, while Axar produced a captain’s knock of 56 from just 30 deliveries. The duo stitched together a crucial 64-run partnership off only 34 balls to revive Delhi’s chase. Late cameos from Ashutosh Sharma (24) and Madhav Tiwari (18) ensured DC crossed the finish line with six balls to spare.
Punjab Kings had earlier posted 210/5 after electing to bat first. Young opener Priyansh Arya dazzled with a blistering 56 off 33 balls, including six massive sixes. He launched an early assault on Mitchell Starc and the DC pace attack, helping PBKS race to a flying start.
However, Delhi Capitals clawed their way back through disciplined bowling from Aquib Nabi and Madhav Tiwari, who used hard lengths effectively after the powerplay. Madhav picked up his maiden IPL wicket by dismissing Priyansh, while PBKS lost momentum during the middle overs.
PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 59 off 36 balls, while Cooper Connolly added 38 off 27. But despite their 83-run stand, Punjab failed to fully capitalize in the death overs.
Starc struck twice in the 19th over by dismissing Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh off consecutive deliveries, while Lungi Ngidi bowled an excellent final over to restrict Punjab to 210.
Punjab Kings’ bowlers started well during Delhi’s chase, reducing the visitors to 47/3 inside the powerplay. Arshdeep Singh led the effort brilliantly with figures of 2/21 in four overs, while Yash Thakur provided the first breakthrough.
Despite the defeat, Punjab Kings remain in contention for the playoffs but now need at least two wins from their remaining three matches. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, stay alive in the race with a much-needed morale-boosting victory.
