SA20 has announced the schedule for its 2027 season, with the tournament set to run from January 17 to February 21. Defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape will begin their title defence against runners-up Pretoria Capitals in the opening match at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.

The clash will be a repeat of last season’s thrilling final, while the other two playoff teams from the previous edition — Paarl Royals and Jo’burg Super Kings — will face off on Day 2 at Paarl Royals’ home ground.

The month-long competition will feature four Saturday double-headers on January 23, January 30, February 6, and February 13. The final group-stage match will see MI Cape Town take on Pretoria Capitals at Newlands on February 14, before the iconic venue hosts the final exactly a week later.

SA20 2027 playoff schedule

  • Qualifier 1: February 16, 2027 — Boland Park, Paarl
  • Eliminator: February 17, 2027 — Wanderers, Johannesburg
  • Qualifier 2: February 19, 2027 — Wanderers, Johannesburg
  • Final: February 21, 2027 — Newlands, Cape Town

SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith described the fixture announcement as a major milestone ahead of the new season.

“Announcing the SA20 fixtures is always a big moment for us. It’s the first major milestone ahead of the new season and means the wheels are in motion as we build towards an incredible month of cricket.”

Smith added that there could be no better way to launch Season 5 than with a rematch of one of the most memorable finals in SA20 history.

For the second consecutive season and third time overall, Newlands will host the SA20 final. Geordin Hill-Lewis welcomed the decision, calling it a proud moment for Cape Town as the city prepares for a landmark year of cricket, including the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup later in 2027.

Meanwhile, Paarl will host a playoff match for the first time in SA20 history, with Boland Park staging Qualifier 1. Smith praised Paarl fans for their passionate support and said he was delighted the city would finally get the opportunity to witness a playoff fixture.
