Speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s ODI future has intensified over the past few days, especially after the veteran opener endured another disappointing outing in the ongoing three-match ODI series against England. Amid the growing retirement rumours, a video featuring Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah during the second ODI has gone viral on social media, further fuelling the discussion.

In the viral clip, Rohit is seen sitting alongside Kohli and Bumrah, with all three appearing deep in conversation. Their serious expressions prompted fans to speculate whether Rohit’s teammates had already been informed about a possible retirement after the third ODI at Lord’s. However, there has been no official confirmation from Rohit Sharma or the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the video itself does not establish what the trio were discussing.

Rohit’s recent form has only added to the speculation. The experienced opener has managed scores of 11 and 26 in the first two ODIs against England. Overall, he has scored 241 runs in eight ODI innings in 2026 at an average of just over 30, with his highest score being 79 against Afghanistan.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the BCCI has informed Rohit that he is not part of India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The report claims that the selectors are looking to move forward with a younger squad after the England series, despite Rohit’s desire to continue playing.

A source quoted in the report said: “The selectors have informed Rohit that he does not figure in their scheme of things after the England tour and they are moving on from him after this series. He wanted to continue, especially after working on his fitness.”

Adding further fuel to the rumours are reports that Rohit’s parents have travelled to England during the series. While there is no official link between their visit and the retirement speculation, the timing has led many fans to believe that a major announcement could be on the horizon. As things stand, however, Rohit’s future remains uncertain, with neither the player nor the BCCI making any official statement regarding his retirement.
