Yuvraj Singh Reveals Truth Behind Lalit Modi’s Porsche Promise After Iconic Six Sixes in T20 World Cup 2007

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has revisited one of the most iconic moments in cricket history—his six sixes in an over during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007. The legendary all-rounder also revealed whether he ever received the promised Porsche 911 from former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi.

Yuvraj’s unforgettable feat came against England in Durban when he smashed six consecutive sixes off Stuart Broad, racing to a blistering 12-ball half-century. The knock played a pivotal role in India’s triumph in the inaugural T20 World Cup.

At the time, Lalit Modi had announced that any player hitting six sixes in an over during the tournament would be rewarded with a Porsche 911. Nearly two decades later, Yuvraj shared the story behind the promise during a conversation with Michael Vaughan on the The Overlap Cricket Podcast.

“I keep on hearing this story on social media. He said to me if someone hits six sixes… he promised a Porsche 911, so I asked where was my Porsche,” Yuvraj said.
“He said I’ll get my car, but then I asked what if I win the next game for India—do I get an upgrade to a Ferrari? He said no. I changed it to another car, but I got a car. I received a BMW M5 in India, and he did deliver. He was a man of his word.”

A Rare Feat in International Cricket

Yuvraj’s achievement remains one of the rarest in the sport. Only two other cricketers have matched the milestone in international cricket:

  • Herschelle Gibbs – Six sixes in an over in an ODI during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 against the Netherlands.
  • Kieron Pollard – Six sixes in a T20I against Sri Lanka in 2021, off Akila Dananjaya.

A Legacy Etched in Gold

Yuvraj Singh’s contribution to Indian cricket goes far beyond that historic over. He was instrumental in India’s victories at the 2007 T20 World Cup and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. In the latter, he was named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding all-round performance, scoring 361 runs and taking 15 wickets.

Over an illustrious international career, Yuvraj represented India in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is, cementing his legacy as one of the country’s greatest match-winners.
