Steve Smith and Babar Azam opened the innings for Sydney Sixers in their Big Bash League clash against Sydney Thunder, and one moment between the two star batters quickly caught the attention of fans. During one over, Smith was seen denying a single to Babar to keep the strike, a gesture that triggered lively reactions across social media platforms.

Smith went on to produce a sensational knock, smashing a blistering century at a strike rate of 238.10, while his opening partner Babar played a steadier hand, scoring 47 off 39 deliveries. The duo added a rapid 141-run partnership for the first wicket in just 12.1 overs, putting the Sixers firmly in control of the chase.

Smith was also involved in another eye-catching moment during the Thunder innings. In the 16th over, Nic Maddinson launched Ben Manenti straight down the ground. Positioned at long-off, Smith watched as Babar Azam, stationed at long-on and closer to the ball, allowed it to roll over the boundary for four—leaving Smith visibly surprised by the lapse in the field.

Crazy scenes in the BBL

Babar plays 3 dots. On the last ball of the over he hits it to long on & Steve Smith denies the single. Babar was angry.

Smith then hit 4 sixes in a row. And 32 off the over.

Chasing 190, the Sixers made a flying start. While Smith continued his aggressive approach, Babar departed after his 47, having also featured in a record moment earlier in the match when Ryan Hadley conceded 32 runs in an over, the most expensive over in BBL history.

The Sixers briefly lost momentum with wickets falling in quick succession, but Lachlan Shaw and Jack Edwards steadied the ship to seal a five-wicket victory.

"GET OUT THE WAY, BABAR!" 😂

Earlier, David Warner’s brilliant century powered Sydney Thunder to 189/6 in their allotted 20 overs, setting up what turned out to be an entertaining contest highlighted by Smith’s explosive batting and moments that set social media alight.
