Chasing a target of 190, the Sixers got off to a flying start as Smith and Babar put together a rapid 141-run opening partnership in just 12.1 overs. While Smith continued his aggressive approach, Babar was dismissed for 47, but not before being part of a record-breaking moment. During the stand, Ryan Hadley conceded 32 runs in a single over, the most expensive over in Big Bash League history.
After the openers’ departure, the Sixers lost wickets at regular intervals, but Lachlan Shaw and Jack Edwards held their nerve to guide the team home, sealing a five-wicket victory.
Earlier in the match, David Warner led Sydney Thunder’s batting with a brilliant century, powering his side to 189/6 in 20 overs. The knock was Warner’s 10th T20 hundred, which saw him move past Virat Kohli into third place on the list of batters with the most centuries in T20 cricket.
