Vasuki Koushik Joins Goa Ahead of Domestic Season; Shami Named in Bengal Probables

In a key domestic move, Karnataka’s experienced right-arm medium pacer Vasuki Koushik is set to represent Goa in the upcoming 2024–25 season. The 32-year-old has secured a No Objection Certificate (NoC) from the Karnataka State Cricket Association and becomes one of Goa’s two professional signings so far.

A New Start in Goa

The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) confirmed the signing, stating that Koushik is currently the only confirmed transfer, though the association is exploring other options as well.

Koushik enjoyed a consistent domestic season last year, playing:

  • 7 Ranji Trophy matches, taking 23 wickets
  • 5 Vijay Hazare Trophy games, picking up 8 wickets
  • 10 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches, claiming 18 wickets

He’s expected to lead Goa’s pace attack, likely sharing new-ball duties with Arjun Tendulkar, who remains part of the squad this season.

Jaiswal Deal Falls Through

Goa had also shown interest in bringing Yashasvi Jaiswal on board, but the India opener opted out after initially expressing interest. As of now, no other high-profile signings have been finalised.

Goa’s 2023–24 Season Recap

  • Ranji Trophy: Plate Group champions
  • Vijay Hazare Trophy: 5th in Group A
  • Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: 6th in their group
    • Captains: Darshan Misal (Ranji & Vijay Hazare), Deepraj Gaonkar (Mushtaq Ali)

With Koushik’s addition and the prospect of further reinforcements, Goa is shaping up for a stronger campaign this time.

Karun Nair Returns to Karnataka

While Koushik moves out, Karun Nair returns to Karnataka after spending two seasons with Vidarbha. The experienced batter, who has represented India at the Test level, decided to return to his home state due to personal reasons.

Mohammed Shami Among Bengal’s 50 Probables

Elsewhere, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has announced a 50-member list of probables for the upcoming season. Senior India pacer Mohammed Shami, who is currently recovering from injury, features at the top of the list.

Also included is opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, currently touring England as part of the Indian Test squad. The list was announced by CAB Secretary Naresh Ojha.
