Pakistan will take on Namibia in their final group-stage fixture of the 2026 T20 World Cup on Wednesday in Colombo. The Men in Green must secure a win to guarantee qualification for the Super 8 stage after suffering a defeat to arch-rivals India on Sunday.

What If It Rains in Colombo?

Rain could play a decisive role. If the match is washed out, both teams will share one point each. That would take Pakistan’s tally to five points — enough to seal qualification for the Super 8s regardless of other results.

The Netherlands, who are still mathematically in contention, would then need two things to happen: Pakistan must lose to Namibia, and the Dutch must defeat India by a significant margin to boost their net run rate. Without a Pakistan defeat, the Netherlands cannot advance.

If Pakistan progress, they will join England, New Zealand and co-hosts Sri Lanka in Group 2 of the Super 8 stage.

Pakistan’s Tournament So Far

Pakistan began their campaign with a thrilling win over the Netherlands. Chasing a tricky target, they clinched victory in the final over after Faheem Ashraf smashed an unbeaten 29 off just 11 balls, including a 24-run over against Logan van Beek that turned the match on its head.

Reflecting on that finish, Faheem said:

“We’ve been playing similar cricket for the past one year. Whatever job is given, we try to do it properly and in the best possible way. The heartbeat was fast, but this kind of situation wasn’t new. It was just about going out there and doing what we know.”

Pakistan followed it up with a commanding performance against USA, posting 190/9 before restricting the opposition to 158/8 to secure a 32-run victory.

However, they stumbled against India in Colombo. The Men in Blue posted 175/7, powered by Ishan Kishan’s explosive 77 off 40 balls. Pakistan’s batting unit then collapsed to 114 all out, resulting in a 61-run defeat.

After the loss, captain Salman Ali Agha admitted:

“We were believing in our spinners and they had an off day today. Execution was missing in some parts of the game. We always back our spinners because they’ve done really well in the last six months. With the batting, we didn’t start well and in T20 games if you lose three or four wickets in the powerplay, you are always chasing the game.”

With qualification on the line, Pakistan will aim to avoid any slip-ups — and hope the Colombo weather stays clear.
