Two Sri Lanka U-19 cricketers have reportedly been arrested for allegedly filming individuals inside a hotel bathroom in Narahenpita, Colombo, in a shocking incident that has raised serious concerns.
According to reports, the incident took place at the team hotel, where the players were staying during their tour. Complaints were lodged by women guests, who alleged that they had been secretly filmed using a mobile phone while in the bathroom.
The accused were produced before the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court for their initial hearing and have been released on personal bail of LKR 500,000 (approximately $1,564). They are scheduled to appear in court again on May 25. Investigations are currently underway, with Narahenpita police also probing whether any of the alleged video footage was circulated online.
Sri Lanka Cricket has not yet announced any disciplinary action against the players.
The development comes at a time of major administrative upheaval within Sri Lanka Cricket. The government recently removed the board’s office bearers, leading to the formation of a Transformation Committee to oversee operations.
Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara is among nine members appointed to the committee, alongside notable figures such as Roshan Mahanama and Sidath Wettimuny. The panel is chaired by Eran Wickramaratne and includes professionals from corporate, legal, and political backgrounds.
In a related development, SLC President Shammi Silva resigned with immediate effect on April 29. The board confirmed that the entire leadership structure, including members of the Executive Committee, has stepped down as part of the restructuring process.
The incident involving the U-19 players has further intensified scrutiny on Sri Lanka Cricket during an already turbulent period.
