The standoff between the Pakistan Cricket Board and Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani has intensified, with the board issuing a detailed rebuttal to criticism surrounding the bowler’s two-year suspension from the Pakistan Super League.

Responding to a strongly worded statement from Muzarabani’s representatives, the PCB—headed by Mohsin Naqvi—reportedly acknowledged that no formal written contract had been sent to the player for the PSL 2026 season.

PCB Stands Firm on ‘Verbal Agreement’

Despite the absence of signed paperwork, the PCB maintained that a verbal agreement was in place and argued that Muzarabani’s withdrawal constituted a breach of commitment.

The controversy dates back to February, when Muzarabani—initially unsold in the PSL auction—was approached by Islamabad United as a replacement signing worth PKR 11 million. The franchise even announced his inclusion publicly on social media ahead of the season.

However, the situation took a dramatic turn when Muzarabani opted out and instead joined Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman.

The PCB responded by terming his actions “unprofessional” and swiftly imposed a two-year ban.

Agent Hits Back at PCB

Muzarabani’s agent, Rob Humphries, strongly contested the PCB’s version, stating that no official contract had been signed and that his client was never formally part of the PSL system.

“We’ve remained quiet publicly over the last six weeks because we did not wish to create more animosity,” Humphries said.
“On February 13, Blessing was approached by Islamabad United about a playing opportunity, subject to obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Zimbabwe Cricket.”

He further emphasized that an NOC cannot be issued without a valid contract, questioning the legitimacy of the PCB’s disciplinary action.

Uncertain Road Ahead

With both sides holding firm, there appears to be no immediate resolution in sight. The dispute has not only raised questions over contractual clarity in franchise leagues but has also cast uncertainty over Muzarabani’s short-term future in global T20 competitions.

The episode adds to the growing friction between leagues, as overlapping windows and lucrative opportunities continue to test player commitments and governing frameworks.
