Prithvi Shaw was involved in an avoidable on-field altercation with his former Mumbai teammates during a three-day practice match in Pune on Tuesday. The former India and Mumbai opener, now representing Maharashtra, was seen angrily confronting Musheer Khan after completing a brilliant century against his former domestic side.
According to sources, the incident took place on the opening day of the friendly match between Maharashtra and Mumbai at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Gahunje, Pune. Shaw, after being dismissed, allegedly reacted to a verbal exchange initiated by Musheer. Reports suggest that Shaw attempted to raise his bat and grab the Mumbai spinner by the collar before being restrained by officials.
Opening the innings, Shaw was in sublime form, smashing 181 off 220 balls, including 21 fours and 3 sixes, while adding a massive 305-run opening stand with Arshin Kulkarni. Kulkarni too played a sensational knock, scoring 186 off just 140 balls with 33 fours and 4 sixes, as Maharashtra piled up runs after opting to bat first.
The flashpoint reportedly occurred after Shaw’s dismissal — caught by Irfan Umair off Musheer Khan at square leg in the 74th over — when Musheer allegedly taunted him with a “Thank you” send-off. Shaw, visibly upset, charged towards Musheer, prompting the umpire to step in and defuse the situation.
“It’s a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It’s all fine now and there’s no issue,” said Ankit Bawne, captain of the Maharashtra team.
As of now, neither the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) nor the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MACA) has taken any disciplinary action or escalated the matter further.
