The Netherlands defeated the United States of America by 21 runs (DLS method) to complete a perfect three wins from three matches in the Super Six stage of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers, sealing their maiden qualification for the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Having already beaten Nepal and Thailand in the group stage, the Dutch entered the contest knowing that one more positive result would confirm their spot at the global event. Batting first, the USA were restricted to 129 for 7 in 20 overs, thanks to an impressive spell from medium-pacer Hannah Landheer, who returned figures of 3 for 30.
In reply, the Netherlands got off to a commanding start, with Heather Siegers and Phebe Molkenboer adding 57 runs for the opening wicket. The chase was firmly in their control at 90 for 2 after 12 overs when rain interrupted play. With the Dutch side 21 runs ahead of the DLS par score and no further play possible due to persistent rain, the Netherlands were declared winners.
The result means the Netherlands will travel to England and Wales later this June for the Women’s T20 World Cup, marking a historic return to the global stage.
Bangladesh also secured qualification for the marquee event, registering a 39-run victory over Thailand. They had earlier defeated Namibia and Ireland in the group stage. With the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup set to feature 12 teams, ten nations have now booked their places, leaving two spots up for grabs. Scotland, Ireland, USA, and Thailand remain in contention for the remaining berths.
The Netherlands played their first women’s international match in 1937 and were a strong force in the game between the 1980s and early 2000s, featuring in four consecutive World Cups from 1988 to 2000. However, they had failed to qualify for a global tournament in the T20 era—until now.
