England have named their playing XI for the crucial 3rd Test against India at Lord’s, with Jofra Archer making a long-awaited return to the red-ball format. Archer, who last featured in a Test in February 2021 — also against India — replaces Josh Tongue in the side.
The 30-year-old speedster has taken 42 wickets in 13 Tests, including four against India in just two matches. Known for his pace and aggression, Archer’s inclusion strengthens England’s pace attack alongside Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse.
Josh Tongue, who had an impressive run with 11 wickets in the first two Tests, makes way, while spinner Shoaib Bashir retains his spot. Gus Atkinson, England’s highest-ranked Test bowler currently, was added to the squad after the Birmingham loss but hasn’t been included in the final XI.
In the batting department, Zak Crawley continues to hold his place at the top, meaning young all-rounder Jacob Bethell misses out once again.
