Chennai Super Kings suffered a major setback in their IPL 2026 playoff push after a five-wicket defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chepauk on Monday. The loss has left CSK’s qualification hopes hanging by a thread, while SRH officially sealed their playoff berth.
Batting first, CSK posted 180/7, thanks to aggressive knocks from Dewald Brevis (44) and Kartik Sharma (32). SRH skipper Pat Cummins led from the front with impressive figures of 3/28, restricting Chennai from reaching a bigger total.
In reply, SRH lost Travis Head early and managed only 45/1 in the powerplay, but fluent half-centuries from Ishan Kishan (70 off 47) and Heinrich Klaasen (47) turned the game around. Their crucial 75-run partnership guided Hyderabad to victory in 19 overs.
How CSK Can Still Qualify for IPL 2026 Playoffs
After the defeat, CSK remain on 12 points from 13 matches. With only one league game left — against Gujarat Titans on May 21 — the maximum they can reach is 14 points.
