India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their third Group A fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday, February 15, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. However, weather forecasts have raised serious concerns about rain disrupting the high-voltage clash.
According to Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology, “A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal around 15th February.” AccuWeather has predicted a 93 per cent chance of precipitation in Colombo on Sunday, significantly increasing the risk of interruptions.
The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM IST. For a T20I to produce a result, a minimum of five overs per side must be completed. While no matches in the tournament so far have been affected by rain, a few warm-up games in Colombo were washed out last week. Notably, Pakistan’s warm-up fixture against Ireland on February 4 was abandoned without a toss due to persistent showers.
If rain forces the India-Pakistan encounter to be called off, both teams will share one point each, as there is no reserve day allocated for group-stage matches. As per tournament regulations, reserve days are available only for the two semifinals and the final — not for group-stage or Super 8 matches.
Tournament organisers will make every effort to complete the match on the scheduled day, even if it requires a reduction in overs. Only if the minimum number of overs required to constitute a result cannot be bowled will the match be officially abandoned.
With millions of fans eagerly awaiting the marquee showdown, all eyes are now on Colombo’s skies.
