Suryakumar Yadav and his men added another memorable chapter to the storied India–Pakistan rivalry, registering a commanding 61-run victory in Colombo on Sunday. The win not only sealed India’s place in the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, but also extended their remarkable record against Pakistan in T20 World Cups to 8-1.

As India stormed into the next round, congratulatory messages flooded social media. Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi lauded the team for its dominant performance and also praised head coach Gautam Gambhir for his leadership.

Thanks a lot for your wishes!

“Congratulations to Team India on its win against Pakistan as expected in the @cricketworldcup in Colombo and to @GautamGambhir for his stewardship,” Modi wrote on X.

Gambhir responded graciously, saying, “Thanks a lot for your wishes!”

Kishan Sets the Platform

Earlier in the day, Ishan Kishan produced a match-defining knock of 77 off 40 balls at the R. Premadasa Stadium. Batting first on a slightly two-paced surface, India posted a competitive 175 for seven — a total that appeared slightly above par given the sluggish nature of the pitch.

Kishan blended flair with authority, dominating the middle overs with crisp strokeplay. He combined clean hitting with smart placement, ensuring the scoreboard kept moving even when the surface offered assistance to the bowlers. Despite losing a few wickets toward the end, India maintained momentum thanks to Kishan’s aggressive yet controlled approach.

Bowlers Seal the Deal

Pakistan’s chase never truly gathered steam. Jasprit Bumrah struck with early precision, while Hardik Pandya complemented him perfectly, removing key batters and applying immediate pressure. The early dismissal of Pakistan skipper Babar Azam further tilted the contest decisively in India’s favour.

India’s bowlers maintained a tight grip through the middle overs, not allowing any meaningful partnerships to develop. Pakistan were eventually bundled out for 114, handing India a comprehensive 61-run win.

With a dominant all-round performance, Suryakumar Yadav & Co reaffirmed their supremacy in T20 World Cup clashes against their arch-rivals and marched confidently into the Super Eight stage.
