GT vs RR Qualifier 2

Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals are set to face off in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2026, marking their third meeting of the season. This time, however, the stakes are much higher, with a place in the final against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru on the line. The rivalry between the two sides has been evenly balanced so far this season. Rajasthan Royals edged Gujarat Titans by six runs in April before GT bounced back strongly with a commanding 77-run victory earlier this month.

Gujarat Titans enter the contest after suffering a dramatic batting collapse against RCB in Qualifier 1, which resulted in a crushing 92-run defeat. While that loss would still be fresh in their minds, Friday’s clash presents an opportunity for Shubman Gill’s side to bounce back and keep their title hopes alive.

Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, head into the game full of confidence after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 47 runs in the Eliminator. The Royals are currently on a three-match winning streak and will look to continue their momentum in the knockout clash.

The winner of tonight’s match will secure a spot in the IPL 2026 final, but what happens if the game is abandoned or fails to produce a result? Which team would then progress to face RCB at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday?

What Happens If GT vs RR Is Abandoned?

The IPL playing conditions clearly outline the rules for such scenarios.

According to Clause 16.10.3, if any playoff match — including the Qualifiers, Eliminator or Final — ends in a tie or produces no result, the teams will compete in a Super Over to decide the winner. If required, multiple Super Overs can be played.

However, if weather or conditions do not allow even a Super Over to take place, then the team that finished higher in the league-stage points table will automatically be declared the winner of the playoff match.

In the case of IPL 2026 Qualifier 2, Gujarat Titans would qualify for the final if the match is washed out and no Super Over is possible, as they finished above Rajasthan Royals in the league standings.

Is There a Reserve Day for Qualifier 2?

No, there is no reserve day for Qualifier 2. Since there is only a one-day gap between Qualifier 2 and the IPL final, and both matches are scheduled at different venues, the BCCI has not allocated a reserve day for the fixture.

Is There a Chance of Rain in Mullanpur?

While conditions in New Chandigarh have remained extremely hot over the past few days, forecasts currently suggest only minimal chances of rain during match hours. However, cloud cover or brief interruptions cannot be completely ruled out. The weather is expected to remain humid, with temperatures staying above 30 degrees Celsius even during the evening.
