Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru are on the verge of creating history in IPL 2026. The Rajat Patidar-led side could join elite company alongside Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians by successfully defending their IPL crown.

Rain Could Play a Massive RoleHow RCB Could Win the Trophy Without PlayingWeather Remains a Talking Point

RCB will first face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. However, an unusual weather-driven scenario could potentially hand RCB the IPL 2026 title without them needing to play a single ball in the playoffs.

Rain Could Play a Massive Role

The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala is renowned for its stunning Himalayan backdrop and high-altitude conditions. While the venue is one of the most scenic cricket grounds in the world, its elevation also makes the weather highly unpredictable.

According to forecasts, there is a slight possibility of rain ahead of the RCB vs GT Qualifier 1 clash. AccuWeather predicts nearly a 54 percent chance of rain around 6 PM IST, although the chances reduce significantly as the evening progresses. As of now, a full match still appears likely.

For playoff games, the IPL has allocated two extra hours to ensure at least a five-overs-per-side contest can be completed. But if persistent rain forces the match to be abandoned, RCB would automatically qualify for the final because they finished higher than Gujarat Titans on the league-stage points table.

How RCB Could Win the Trophy Without Playing

The unusual scenario becomes even more dramatic if rain also affects the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad.

The IPL final, scheduled for May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, has a reserve day on June 1. If rain washes out both the final and the reserve day, the IPL trophy would be awarded to the team that finished higher in the league standings.

Since RCB ended the league stage as table-toppers, they would be crowned IPL 2026 champions without playing a single ball in either Qualifier 1 or the final.

Weather Remains a Talking Point

Unseasonal rain during late May and early June has increasingly become common across several parts of India, adding another layer of uncertainty to the business end of the tournament.

While fans would prefer the title to be decided on the field, weather could unexpectedly become the biggest factor in determining IPL 2026’s eventual champions.
