The DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai has been confirmed as one of the venues for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, replacing Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the ICC announced on Friday.
The decision comes after the Karnataka State Association failed to secure government clearance to host matches. Bengaluru’s participation as a venue had already been in doubt following the tragic stampede during RCB’s IPL title celebrations, a situation first reported by Cricbuzz on August 7.
DY Patil Stadium will now host three league matches, one semi-final, and potentially the final — though if Pakistan qualifies for the summit clash, the final will shift to Colombo.
Alongside Navi Mumbai, the other venues for the tournament are the ACA Stadium (Guwahati), ACA-VDCA Stadium (Vizag), Holkar Stadium (Indore), and R Premadasa Stadium (Colombo).
Key Schedule Changes
- The opening match between joint hosts India and Sri Lanka (Sept 30), originally set for Bengaluru, will now be played in Guwahati.
- The England vs South Africa clash (Oct 3) has also been shifted to Guwahati.
- As a result, Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh (Oct 20) and India vs New Zealand (Oct 23) have been reassigned to Navi Mumbai.
- Guwahati will now also host New Zealand vs Bangladesh (Oct 10) instead of Vizag, while Vizag will stage the England vs New Zealand fixture (Oct 26).
Tournament Format
The league stage will run from September 30 to October 26, with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals. The first-placed side will face the fourth, while second and third will contest the other semifinal. The tournament concludes with the final on November 2, to be played in Colombo or Navi Mumbai depending on Pakistan’s progress.
