Young batter Akshat Raghuvanshi opened up about his IPL experience and how Madhya Pradesh League has been helpful in providing a platform.
On the importance of the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL)
“The Madhya Pradesh League is a massive opportunity for cricketers from the state. Scouts from different franchises and teams closely follow the tournament, and since it is broadcast live on television and digital platforms, players get the exposure they need. Many cricketers have earned IPL contracts because of their performances here. It is a fantastic platform and I always enjoy playing in it.”
On sharing the dressing room with IPL stars
“Playing alongside experienced players like Rajat Patidar, Venkatesh Iyer and other senior cricketers is always inspiring. Last season, I used the opportunity to observe them closely, understand their preparation and ask them about their experiences in the IPL. You learn a lot just by being around such players.”
On learning leadership from Rajat Patidar
“I always try to learn from Rajat Patidar. He has led teams successfully, won trophies and played several big finals. Even if I don’t become a captain in the future, I would like to be part of a leadership group. Watching how experienced captains handle pressure and manage the team teaches you a lot.”
On his aggressive batting style
“The coaches do pull me up sometimes because of the way I bat. My approach has always been positive and attacking. Sometimes it works, sometimes I get out early, but that’s part of my game. The coaches understand that and keep guiding me to make better decisions.”
On his IPL experience with Lucknow Super Giants
“Sharing the dressing room with players like Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram and others was an incredible experience. I had never played alongside such established international cricketers before. I also learnt a lot from coaches like Tom Moody and Kane Williamson. The IPL gave me valuable exposure both on and off the field.”
On meeting Rohit Sharma
“Meeting Rohit Sharma was a special moment for me. He didn’t really give me any technical advice, but as soon as he saw me, he smiled and jokingly said, ‘Don’t get out on the first ball.’ That was something I’ll always remember.”
On his favourite aggressive batters
“I really enjoy watching Heinrich Klaasen, Abhishek Sharma and AB de Villiers. They are fearless batters and I would love to bat alongside players like them.”
On healthy competition
“Healthy competition is extremely important if you want to improve. Every player wants to be the best in the team. If you become satisfied with where you are, you stop growing. Competition pushes you to work harder and become a better cricketer every day.”
On his preferred IPL franchise
“If not Lucknow Super Giants, I would love to play for either Mumbai Indians or Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Mumbai has always been one of my favourite teams, while RCB has an incredible fan base and a great atmosphere.”
