Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South African batting all-rounder Dian Forrester as a replacement for injured England cricketer Jamie Overton for the remainder of IPL 2026.
Overton was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a right thigh injury during CSK’s clash against Lucknow Super Giants on May 10 in Chennai. Confirming the development, the IPL released an official statement on Thursday.
“Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have picked a player replacement for Jamie Overton, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a right thigh injury. Dian Forrester will join CSK for INR 75 lakh as a replacement for Overton. Forrester, an all-rounder from South Africa, made his debut in March 2026 against New Zealand and has featured in five international games, scoring 83 runs,” the release stated.
Overton’s injury comes as a major setback for CSK, with the England all-rounder emerging as one of the franchise’s standout performers this season. He scored 136 runs and picked up 14 wickets in 10 matches, making him CSK’s second-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2026.
In his final appearance before the injury, Overton delivered a match-winning spell of 3/36 against Lucknow Super Giants and was named Player of the Match.
“Official Announcement. Jamie Overton has a right thigh injury and will be returning to the UK for further assessment and management,” CSK posted on X.
Forrester, 25, made his international debut for South Africa earlier this year against New Zealand and has featured in five T20Is, scoring 83 runs. Though primarily known for his batting, he has also chipped in with the ball when required.
Overall, Forrester has played 36 T20 matches, scoring 681 runs and taking 11 wickets. He was part of Rawalpindiz in PSL 2026, where he scored 132 runs and claimed two wickets in six matches under Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy.
The South African all-rounder also represented Joburg Super Kings in the 2025-26 SA20 season, making him familiar with the Super Kings setup before joining CSK.
