The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Duleep Trophy final will be shifted from Bengaluru to Chennai, allowing fans to watch the match from the stands.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz that the decision was taken because of restrictions at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, where the quarterfinals and semifinals will be played.
“The two quarterfinals and two semifinals will be held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. But because of some government restrictions, we cannot allow the public to watch the matches at the CoE. In view of that, we have moved the final to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai,” Saikia said.
The five-day final will be played from September 6 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played over four days.
All matches of the tournament will be live-streamed, while selected games, including the final, will also be broadcast on television.
The inter-zonal red-ball tournament will begin on August 23, with two quarterfinals taking place simultaneously. East Zone will face North East Zone, while North Zone will take on West Zone.
The two semifinals are scheduled to begin on August 30, with the winners progressing to the final.
Central Zone are the defending champions, having defeated South Zone in last year’s final.
