The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed director Nazmul Islam from his role as Chairman of the Finance Committee with immediate effect. The decision was announced in an official media release on Thursday.
According to the statement, the move was taken after reviewing recent developments and in the best interest of the organisation. The BCB said the decision was made under Article 31 of the BCB Constitution, which gives the board president the authority to take such action. Until further notice, the BCB President will take over as Acting Chairman of the Finance Committee.
In the same release, the BCB stressed that the welfare of cricketers remains its top priority. The board said it is committed to protecting the honour and dignity of players and urged all cricketers to continue showing professionalism during what it described as a challenging period for Bangladesh cricket. The BCB also appealed to players to ensure uninterrupted participation in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
The development comes a day after the BCB issued a show-cause notice to Nazmul Islam for making what it termed “objectionable comments” about Bangladesh cricketers. His remarks reportedly led to uncertainty within the BPL, with a match scheduled to begin at 12:30 pm local time being delayed.
“The board has already initiated formal disciplinary proceedings against the board member concerned,” the BCB had said earlier. “A show-cause letter has been issued, and the individual has been asked to submit a written response within 48 hours. The matter will be handled through due process.”
Commenting on the delayed BPL match between Chattogram and Noakhali, match referee Shipar Ahmed said the situation was unclear. “We are standing in the middle of the ground. We don’t know what’s happening. The BPL technical committee can tell you better,” he was quoted as saying.
