Here are some of the lowest totals in Test cricket
1. 26 – New Zealand vs England, Auckland, 1955
New Zealand won the toss and batted first, scoring 200 with John Reid top-scoring with 73. England replied with 246, thanks to Brian Statham (4/28) and Bob Appleyard (3/38).
In the second innings, England’s bowling attack ran riot, dismissing New Zealand for just 26. Appleyard (4/7) and Statham (3/9) were lethal, with five New Zealand batters registering ducks. Bert Sutcliffe was the top scorer with 11.
England won by an innings and 20 runs, dismissing NZ in just 27 overs.
2. 27 – West Indies vs Australia, Kingston, 2025
Australia, batting first, were restricted to 225 with Shamar Joseph (4/33), Justin Greaves (3/56), and Jayden Seales (3/59) doing the damage.
In reply, WI managed 143, as Scott Boland (3/34), Josh Hazlewood (2/32), and Pat Cummins (2/24) struck regularly.
Australia were then bowled out for 121, Alzarri Joseph starring with 5/27.
Chasing 204, West Indies collapsed for 27 in just 14.3 overs. Mitchell Starc took a sensational 6/9, including the fastest five-wicket haul in Test history, while Boland claimed 3/2 and a hat-trick.
Australia won by 176 runs; seven WI batters were dismissed for ducks.
3. 30 – South Africa vs England, Gqeberha, 1896
SA bowled out England for 185 but folded for 93 in reply. George Lohmann (7/38) starred.
England added 226 in their second innings, setting SA 319.
Lohmann struck again with 8/7, bundling out South Africa for 30. He finished with match figures of 15/45.
England won by 288 runs.
4. 30 – South Africa vs England, Birmingham, 1924
England posted 438, built on strong performances by Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Woolley, and Hendren.
SA were bowled out for 30, with Arthur Gilligan (6/7) and Maurice Tate (4/12) sharing all wickets.
Following on, SA showed more resistance with Bob Catterall’s 120, but they were eventually dismissed for 390.
England won by an innings and 18 runs.
5. 35 – South Africa vs England, Cape Town, 1899
England were bowled out for 92 by Jimmy Sinclair (6/26) and Bonnor Middleton (4/18).
Sinclair then scored 106 as SA took an 85-run lead, scoring 177.
England recovered to post 330 in the second innings, with Johnny Tyldesley scoring 112.
Chasing 245, SA folded for 35, with Schofield Haigh (6/11) and Albert Trott (4/19) running through them.
England won by 210 runs.
6. 36 – South Africa vs Australia, Melbourne, 1932
SA were dismissed for 36 in the first innings, Bert Ironmonger (5/6) and Laurie Nash (4/18) wreaking havoc.
Australia replied with 153, then bowled SA out again for just 45, Ironmonger taking 6/18.
Australia won by 72 runs.
7. 36 – Australia vs England, Birmingham, 1902
England batted first and declared at 376/9, with Johnny Tyldesley scoring 138.
Australia were then skittled out for 36, as Wilfred Rhodes (7/17) and George Hirst (3/15) dismantled the batting.
Following on, Australia reached 46/2, and the match ended in a draw.
8. 36 – India vs Australia, Adelaide, 2020
India made 244 in the first innings, with contributions from Kohli (74), Pujara (43), and Rahane (42).
Australia replied with 191, with Ashwin (4/55), Umesh Yadav (3/40), and Bumrah (2/52) doing the damage.
India had a 53-run lead, but were bundled out for just 36, their lowest-ever total in Tests. Hazlewood (5/8) and Cummins (4/21) were devastating.
Australia chased down 90 with ease to win by 8 wickets.
