Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced one of the greatest knocks in IPL history during Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2026 Eliminator clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad in New Chandigarh on Wednesday (May 27).
Opening the innings for RR, the 15-year-old sensation smashed a breathtaking 97 runs off just 29 deliveries, hammering five fours and 12 sixes during his explosive stay at the crease. Although he missed out on a century by just three runs, Sooryavanshi shattered several major records and gave Rajasthan a dream start in the knockout encounter.
The teenager reached his half-century in only 16 balls, equalling Suresh Raina’s record for the fastest fifty in an IPL playoff match. His fearless hitting completely dismantled the SRH bowling attack and helped Rajasthan race past 100 inside the first eight overs.
With his incredible innings, Vaibhav became the first teenager in the world to score 600 runs in a T20 tournament. He also overtook Yashasvi Jaiswal to become the uncapped player with the most runs in a single IPL season.
The youngster further rewrote the record books by surpassing Chris Gayle’s tally of 59 sixes in IPL 2012. Vaibhav now has 65 sixes in IPL 2026 — the highest by any player in a single IPL season and also the most sixes ever hit in any T20 tournament.
His 12 sixes against SRH are now the most hit by a batter in an IPL playoff innings, going past Shubman Gill’s previous record of 10 sixes. He also became the first player ever to smash 10 or more sixes in an innings three times in a single IPL season.
Vaibhav also set a new benchmark for most powerplay runs in a single IPL season, while his eight sixes inside the first six overs are now the most by any batter in an IPL innings during the powerplay.
His sensational innings powered Rajasthan Royals to a massive total of 243/8 in the Eliminator.
