Delhi Capitals batter Abhishek Porel has been accused of blackmailing a medical student using private photographs, according to reports. The Calcutta High Court has reportedly ordered the arrest of two individuals, including Porel, in connection with the case.
Porel, who hails from West Bengal and represents Bengal in domestic cricket, is alleged to have been involved in a case where the complainant claimed she was sexually assaulted under the pretext of a relationship.
According to reports, the student alleged that private and objectionable photographs and videos were taken and later used to blackmail her. The matter came before the court of Justice Saugata Bhattacharya, who directed the police at Magra Police Station in Hooghly to immediately seize electronic devices such as mobile phones and laptops belonging to the accused.
The court reportedly issued the directive to prevent any alleged private or objectionable material from being circulated online. Reports further stated that the police had not yet seized any electronic devices at the time of the hearing.
The complainant’s lawyers, Randev Sengupta and Akash Gangopadhyay, informed the court that other women may also have been similarly trapped and blackmailed, according to the allegations presented.
Police told the court that efforts were underway to arrest the accused. Justice Bhattacharya directed the investigating authorities to submit a report on the actions taken so far by August 11, when the next hearing in the case is scheduled.
It is important to note that these are allegations made in court proceedings, and Abhishek Porel has not been convicted of any offence. The investigation remains ongoing.
