Virat Kohli added another memorable milestone to his legendary IPL career in the 2026 final. At 37 years and 207 days old, the RCB star became the second-oldest player ever to win the Player of the Match award in an IPL final, moving ahead of several celebrated names in tournament history.

O Only Kumble Stands Above Him

The record for the oldest Player of the Match winner in an IPL final still belongs to Anil Kumble, who achieved the feat at 38 years and 219 days during the 2009 final. The updated list now reads:

Anil Kumble (RCB, 2009) – 38 years, 219 days

Virat Kohli (RCB, 2026) – 37 years, 207 days

Faf du Plessis (CSK, 2021) – 37 years, 94 days

Shane Watson (CSK, 2018) – 36 years, 344 days

What makes the list even more interesting is that all four players delivered on the biggest stage late in their careers.

A Reward For Longevity

Cricket careers rarely stay at the top for nearly two decades. Kohli, however, continues to defy expectations. His Player of the Match performance in the 2026 final was not just about runs or statistics it was a reminder of his remarkable consistency, fitness, and ability to rise to the occasion when his team needs him most.At an age when many players have already retired or stepped away from franchise cricket, Kohli is still producing match-winning performances in title clashes.

Experience Matters In Finals

The names on this list share one common trait: experience.Kumble, Watson, Faf du Plessis, and Kohli all relied on years of knowledge and composure to make an impact under pressure. While the IPL is known for showcasing young talent, finals often demand calm decision-making and big-match temperament qualities that seasoned players possess in abundance. This record is proof that experience remains one of the most valuable assets in cricket.

RCB’s Dominance In a Unique Record

Another fascinating detail is RCB’s presence at the top of the list. Both Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli achieved their Player of the Match awards in IPL finals while representing the Bengaluru franchise. That gives RCB the top two spots in this unique category, underlining the influence of two of the franchise’s greatest icons.

Another Chapter In Kohli’s Legacy

Virat Kohli has already built one of the greatest IPL careers of all time. Yet, even after years of records and milestones, he continues to find new ways to leave his mark on the tournament.By becoming the second-oldest Player of the Match winner in an IPL final, Kohli has once again shown that class, determination, and experience never go out of style.
