India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has joined the Mumbai Indians camp just in time for their opening clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, March 29, as per a report by The Indian Express.
There had been concerns over Bumrah’s availability after he reported to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru a week ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. However, the star pacer linked up with the Mumbai Indians squad on Friday evening and is expected to attend his first training session on Saturday.
According to sources, Bumrah did not train with the team immediately upon arrival, as he had been undergoing workload management and fitness monitoring at the BCCI facility. The medical staff has been closely overseeing his strength and conditioning following India’s recent international assignments.
Bumrah played a pivotal role in India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 triumph, earning Player of the Final honours for his match-winning performance against New Zealand. His return is a major boost for Mumbai Indians, who will rely heavily on his experience and death-over expertise in the upcoming season.
The franchise has been actively preparing for the tournament, with key players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav putting in extensive sessions at the nets at the Wankhede Stadium.
Meanwhile, overseas recruits Will Jacks and Mitchell Santner are yet to join the squad.
Mumbai Indians will also be eager to break an unwanted streak, having not won their opening match of an IPL season since 2012.
