Australia will take on Ireland in the 14th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, as both teams look to strengthen their position in the group stage.

Australia have not enjoyed the same dominance in T20 cricket as they have in other formats. The five-time ODI world champions have won the T20 World Cup only once, lifting the trophy in 2021, and finished runners-up once. Since that triumph, they have failed to reach the semi-finals in the last two editions. Under the leadership of Mitchell Marsh, Australia will be eager to turn things around and make a strong statement in this tournament.

Ireland, meanwhile, showed plenty of fight in their opening game despite suffering a 20-run defeat to Sri Lanka. Harry Tector stood out with a composed knock of 40 runs, while Barry McCarthy and George Dockrell impressed with the ball, picking up two wickets each. Ireland will be hoping to build on those positives as they take on one of the tournament heavyweights.

Probable Playing XI

Australia:
Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh (c), Cameron Green, Josh Inglis (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Matthew Kuhnemann

Bench: Tim David, Cooper Connolly, Matt Renshaw, Ben Dwarshuis, Sean Abbott

Ireland:
Paul Stirling (c), George Adair, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Benjamin Calitz, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, Matthew Humphreys

Bench: Tim Tector, Josh Little, Ben White, Curtis Campher Young

Pitch Report – R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo

The pitch at the R. Premadasa Stadium is known for offering a balanced contest between bat and ball. Fast bowlers are likely to get some movement with the new ball in the early overs. As the match progresses, spinners are expected to come into play, especially in the second innings. In the previous match at this venue, spinners accounted for seven of the ten wickets, highlighting their importance on this surface.
