Action continues in Group A of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 as Pakistan look to set the record straight against the USA in Colombo on Tuesday, February 6. The Sinhalese Sports Club will once again host the Men in Green, who will be eager to put behind them the painful memories of their Super Over defeat to the Americans at the previous edition of the tournament.

That stunning loss in Dallas proved costly for Pakistan, as they eventually failed to qualify for the Super 8s after also going down to arch-rivals India. Led by Salman Ali Agha this time around, Pakistan came close to finding themselves in similar trouble at the start of their 2026 campaign.

Chasing what should have been a manageable target of 148 against the Netherlands, Pakistan nearly unravelled. They were seven wickets down before the 19th over, still needing 29 runs from the final 12 balls.

It was then that all-rounder Faheem Ashraf emerged as an unlikely hero. Ashraf launched a stunning counterattack, smashing Netherlands pacer Logan van Beek for three sixes in a match-defining over. His unbeaten 29 off just 11 balls sealed victory for Pakistan and earned him the Player of the Match award.

Van Beek paid dearly for missing his yorkers, particularly on a slow, low surface where variation was key. In contrast, his pace partner Paul van Meekeren had earlier found success by bowling into the pitch, making stroke-making difficult and highlighting the fine margins that decided the contest.

The USA would empathise with the Dutch after their own narrow loss in the tournament opener. Against defending champions India, the Americans produced a remarkable effort with the ball, reducing the hosts to a shocking 77 for 6 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

However, India wrestled back control through a masterful captain’s knock from Suryakumar Yadav. The Indian skipper struck a superb unbeaten 84 off 49 balls, laced with 10 fours and four sixes, to lift India to 161 for 9 on a tricky, uneven surface.

That total proved beyond the USA’s reach. Despite showing fight, the inexperienced American batting line-up was restricted to 132 for 8, falling short by 29 runs.

Colombo Weather Forecast

Conditions in Colombo are expected to be favourable for cricket. The forecast suggests largely clear skies at the Sinhalese Sports Club, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 27°C. Humidity is likely to hover just above 55 per cent, while light winds of around 12–14 km/h should offer little assistance to the bowlers.
