The controversy reportedly originated from a vlog uploaded by Arshdeep Singh on his YouTube channel. In the clip, Chahal is seen seated next to teammate Shashank Singh. Some viewers claimed he appeared to be discreetly lighting and concealing an object resembling a vape or e-cigarette.
Fueling speculation further, users alleged that the original video was later trimmed or edited after the moment was noticed. The incident has triggered widespread debate online, with fans questioning how such a device could pass airport security and be used on an aircraft.
This is not the first vaping-related controversy in the ongoing IPL season. Recently, Riyan Parag was seen vaping in the dressing room during a match involving Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acted promptly, fining Parag 25 per cent of his match fee and awarding him one demerit point for breaching the Code of Conduct.
While Parag’s case occurred within a stadium setting, Chahal’s alleged act — if verified — could carry more serious implications. Under the Aircraft Rules, 1937, smoking, including the use of electronic cigarettes, is strictly prohibited on flights. Violations can lead to heavy fines, inclusion on a no-fly list, or even imprisonment.
The incident has also revived discussions around player discipline and conduct. Chahal was recently in the news for another viral clip that allegedly showed him smoking while driving, although the authenticity of such videos remains unverified.
At this stage, there has been no official confirmation from either Chahal, Punjab Kings, or the BCCI regarding the alleged incident. Some fans have urged caution, suggesting that the clips could be misleading or manipulated, while others have called for a thorough investigation.
