West Indies’ dismal Test series against Australia ended on a humiliating note as they were skittled out for just 27, the second-lowest total in Test history, handing Australia a crushing 176-run victory at Sabina Park.

Mitchell Starc was the chief destroyer, producing sensational figures of 6 for 9, dismantling the Windies’ batting order in just 14.3 overs. The hosts narrowly avoided the infamous record of 26, set by New Zealand in 1955.

The stunning collapse marked a 3-0 series sweep for Australia and prompted West Indies Cricket president Kishore Shallow to call an emergency meeting involving past legends to address the deepening crisis.

“The result hurts deeply, not only because of how we lost, but because of what West Indies cricket has always represented to our people: pride, identity, and possibility,”
— Kishore Shallow, in an official statement.

“There will be some sleepless nights ahead for many of us, including the players, who I know feel this loss just as heavily.”

West Indies’ previous lowest score was 47 against England in 2004.

Shallow emphasized that the team is still in transition, and that turning things around would take time and belief.

“We are in a rebuilding phase, steadily investing in the next generation, and reigniting the spirit that has long made West Indies cricket a force in the world.
Progress is rarely straightforward. It takes time, perseverance, and belief, especially in our most difficult moments. The road ahead will test us.
Now is not the time to turn away.”

Shallow revealed he has extended invitations to Clive Lloyd, Viv Richards, and Brian Lara to join strategic discussions around the team’s future — a team that also failed to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup, compounding the decline.
