Virat Kohli etched his name in the record books during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, surpassing Rohit Sharma for the most runs scored against a single team in IPL history.
Opening the innings, Kohli needed just 16 runs to go past Rohit’s tally of 1161 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. He achieved the milestone in the fourth over, off Matt Henry, taking his tally to 1162 runs against CSK in 36 IPL matches.
Earlier in the innings, Kohli also broke Rohit’s record for the most runs against one team in T20 cricket overall. He needed just two runs to surpass Rohit’s mark and got there in the very first over.
Kohli’s dominance against CSK extends beyond the IPL as well, with the RCB stalwart also scoring 14 runs in a Champions League T20 match against the same opposition.
The milestone further cements Kohli’s legacy as one of the greatest performers in IPL history, especially against top-tier opposition like CSK.
